In a colorful and solemn ceremony attended by community members, officials, and friends, Mr. Windpouire Ghislain Isidore Kientega was officially sworn in as the Honorary Consul of Burkina Faso in Houston. The event, held at the Fort Bend County Justice Center Office in Richmond, Texas, on Friday, marked a significant milestone for the Burkinabé community in the United States.
The installation was conducted by His Excellency Kassoum Coulibaly, Ambassador of Burkina Faso to the United States, who read the official decree of appointment signed by the Burkinabé government. The decree, numbered 2025-0259/PRES/PM/MAECRBE/MEF and dated March 15, 2025, formalized Mr. Kientega’s new responsibilities as the official representative of Burkina Faso in Houston.
“Mr. Windpouire Ghislain Isidore Kientega, you have been appointed Honorary Consul of Burkina Faso in Houston, United States of America. In the name of His Excellency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, I declare you officially installed in your duties as Honorary Consul. With all our congratulations,” Ambassador Coulibaly declared during the ceremony.
The occasion brought together a cross-section of the Burkinabé diaspora, including local leaders, professionals, and families who have made Houston their home. Many expressed pride that their community will now benefit from strengthened ties with Burkina Faso through the presence of an official Honorary Consul.
Commitment to Service and Community
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Kientega expressed deep gratitude to the Burkinabé government for entrusting him with such an important responsibility. He acknowledged the pioneering efforts of his predecessor, Mr. Rachid Madany Joseph Barry, and pledged to build on his legacy by fostering unity and solidarity among Burkinabé citizens living in Houston and across the region.
“I am humbled by this appointment and grateful for the confidence placed in me. My mission will be to defend the interests of Burkina Faso, support our citizens abroad, and consolidate the unity of our community here in Houston,” Kientega said.
The new Honorary Consul highlighted his commitment to promoting cultural exchanges, expanding trade opportunities, and ensuring that the Burkinabé diaspora remains an integral part of the country’s development agenda.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Houston, home to a thriving African immigrant population, has long been a hub for international diplomacy and trade. The establishment of the Honorary Consulate of Burkina Faso further cements the city’s role as a global crossroads and provides Burkinabé citizens with access to consular support closer to home.
Community members welcomed the move, emphasizing that the Consulate will play a key role in addressing documentation needs, facilitating cultural programs, and promoting stronger bilateral ties between Burkina Faso and the United States.
As the Burkinabé flag and the American flag shared the stage, the atmosphere reflected both pride in national identity and optimism for the future. For many in attendance, the ceremony was not just about the appointment of a new Honorary Consul, but also a celebration of the enduring spirit of unity and progress that defines the Burkinabé community abroad.
With his installation complete, His Excellency Windpouire Ghislain Isidore Kientega now embarks on a new chapter of service—one that promises to strengthen the bonds between Burkina Faso and its citizens in Houston while fostering greater understanding and collaboration with the broader American community.
