Houston, TX — Harris County has introduced new accessibility features on its public-facing Commissioners Court agenda webpage, making it easier for residents with different needs and languages to engage with local government.
The update, unveiled this week, includes a text-to-speech function that reads website content aloud, improved ADA-compliant PDFs, and built-in language translation tools.
“This update reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring all residents of Harris County can fully engage with their government, regardless of their abilities or the language they speak,” said Jesse Dickerman, Interim Harris County Administrator.
The initiative was led by the Office of County Administration in collaboration with Harris County Universal Services, which oversees the county’s digital systems. “These features are just the beginning of what we envision for a more equitable digital future,” said Sindhu Menon, Executive Director of Universal Services.
Residents can now more easily listen to meeting agendas, navigate downloadable documents with screen readers, and access content in multiple languages.
